reference work and visual showcase. The eight books I've published
to date are consistently
among the category's bestsellers. Translated into 10 languages, they are reference tools and inspiration resources

A BRIEF PROFILE I am a graphic designer and artist based in New York City. Over the past 25 years, my work
has focused primarily on visual brand identity
and information design—with application in nearly every medium—for a diversity of clients
in the professional services, manufacturing and educational industries. Since 2000 I have divided my time between commercial practice and academia, establishing a highly-respected reputation at a number of well-regarded institutions in the United States. I began writing about design in 2001, and my
eight books to date—examining such topics as principles of visual communication, typography, color and design drawing—are among the field's
bestsellers, sold in ten languages and used as reference by students, educators and working
professionals around the world. I was educated at the University of the Arts in
Philadelphia, graduating as a Trustee Scholar with a BFA in graphic design in 1990. I currently live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with my partner of 15 years and two cats. DESIGNER
